Pirates fall to Mountain Hawks

The Seton Hall Pirates were in action today in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to face the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks. The Pirates fought hard but fell to the Mountain Hawks by a score of 3-2. The pitching matchup was RHP Sam Burum (2-0) for the Pirates against RHP Jayme Edwards (0-0) for Lehigh. The Pirates got on the board in the 2nd inning on an RBI single by center fielder Derek Jenkins. The game remained 1-0 until the 4th, when Lehigh got on the board. The Mountain Hawks got RBI singles from first baseman Connor Faust and designated hitter Tyler Brong to take a 2-1 lead. The score would remain the same until the top of the 8th. A two out single by SS D.J. Ruhlman set the stage for catcher Alex Falconi. Falconi delivered a double to left center to tie the score at 2. The Mountain Hawks would retake the lead in the bottom of the inning on a fielders choice. The Pirates got a runner to third in the 9th, but could not tie the game. The win improved the Mountain Hawks record to 20-19, and the loss dropped Seton Hall to 28-9. Conor Krauss took the loss for the Pirates, he falls to 1-2 on the season. Nick Macaione recorded the win for Lehigh and he improves to 1-2. The Mountain Hawks were led by second baseman Mike Garzillo who had 2 hits and scored 2 runs. The Pirates were led by third baseman Tyler Boyd had 2 hits for the Pirates. Derek Jenkins also reached base 3 times.

The Pirates are back in action on Friday for the start of a 3 game series with the Villanova Wildcats. The Wildcats are coming off of a 7-6 loss to St. Joseph’s. The Wildcats come in with a 12-25 record overall and a 3-6 BIG EAST record. We will have a preview of the series soon, and will have a full recap of the game Friday when it goes final.
