The Seton Hall Pirates baseball team was back in action today as they took on the Missouri Tigers in game 2 of their 4 game series. The Pirates wound up falling to the Tigers in Ft. Myers by a score of 4-1. This was the first game of a double header. The pitching match up saw RHP Zach Schellenger for the Pirates against RHP Tanner Houck for the Tigers.
The Tigers got out to an early lead when Shane Benes hit a sac fly and scored Ryan Howard to give Missouri a 1-0 lead after the first inning. The Tigers added to their lead in the bottom of the second when Connor Brumfield score on a fielders choice. Shane Benes would increase the lead to 4-0 when he hit a two run home run in the bottom of the third. The home run was the second in as many games for Benes.
The Pirates would be held off the board until top of the 6th when Ryan Ramiz would score on a double from Mikael-Ali Mogues. Seton Hall would threaten a few more times but would never be able to break through and wound up suffering their second loss of the young season.
Tanner Houck picked up his first win of the season for the Tigers. He shook of some early rust to throw 6 solid innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits. He struck out 9 and walked 3 Pirates. Austin Tribby follow up with two scoreless innings, and Cole Bartlett picked up his first save of the season as he pitched a scoreless 9th inning.
Zach Schellenger was saddled with his first loss of the season. He threw 5.1 innings while allowing 4 runs on 3 hits. He struck out 8 batters and walked 3. Matt Leon threw an impressive 2.2 innings where he allowed just 1 hit and struck out 2.
Shane Benes led the Missouri Tigers with 3 RBI’s and hit his second home run of the season. Brett Bond, Jake Ring, and Ryan Howard each had a hit for the Tigers.
The Pirates were led by Mikael-Ali Mogues who had two hits and the lone RBI for the Hall. Mike Alescio and Chris Chiaradio each had two hits for the Pirates.
