The Seton Hall Pirates were back in action on Friday in the Advocare Invitational in Orlando against the Quinnipiac Bobcats. The Bobcats entered with a record of 0-3 while the Pirates came in at 3-1. In the end the Pirates would defeat Quinnipiac 90-79.
The Pirates were very slow out of the gate. After a three pointer from Reggie Oliver, the Bobcats opened up an early 8 point lead. Things didn’t get much better over the next few minutes for the Hall. With 14:18 to go in the first half Daniel Harris would make a layup to give Quinnipiac a 10 point lead. The Pirates would fight back and tie the score with 10 minutes left in the half. Seton Hall made a push and got a lead up to 9 points but entered the half leading 46-39.
The Bobcats were led in the first half by Daniel Harris and Reggie Oliver who each had 10 points. Abdulai Bundu added 7 points and 5 rebounds for Quinnipiac. Peter Kiss and Chaise Daniels each chipped in 6 points. Quinnipiac shot 46.7% from the floor and 46.2% from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Pirates were led by Desi Rodriguez in the first half. Rodriguez had 4 rebounds to go along with 15 points. Michael Nzei added 10 points and led the team with 8 rebounds in the first half. Khadeen Carrington chipped in 7 points and Angel Delgado grabbed 7 rebounds. The Pirates shot 50% from the floor and 33.3% from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Pirates jumped out to a quick start in the second half to push their lead up to 11 points. With 12:45 remaining in the first half the Pirates opened up a 62-47 lead over Quinnipiac. The Bobcats would not go away though. A three pointer from Peter Kiss cut the Seton Hall lead to 2 with 9:54 remaining. That was as close as Quinnipiac would get. The Pirates would go on to extend the lead and ultimately come away with a 90-79 victory.
Quinnipiac was led overall by Daniel Harris who scored 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Chaise Daniels added 14 points and led the team with 11 rebounds. Peter Kiss led the team with 19 points. Reggie Oliver chipped in 13 points and dished out 5 assists. The Bobcats shot 42.4% from the floor and 42.3% from beyond the arc.
The Pirates were led by Desi Rodriguez and Michael Nzei. Rodriguez scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Nzei scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Khadeen Carrington, Madison Jones, and Myles Powell also scored in double digits for the Hall. Carrington had 17 points and 3 assists. Madison Jones had 11 points and Myles Powell had 12 points. The Pirates shot 50% from the floor and 23.1% from beyond the arc.
With the loss the Bobcats fall to 0-4 on the season. They will take on Indiana State tomorrow in Orlando. The Pirates improve to 4-1 on the season with the victory.
