Victory in Virginia

The Seton Hall University baseball team began their three game series with James Madison University on Saturday. Friday night’s game was postponed due to weather and will be played at 1 pm on Monday. Seton Hall kicked off the series with another great performance, and earned a 15-4 victory. The victory was the 7th straight for the #22 ranked Pirates. Seton Hall RHP Josh Prevost faced off against James Madison RHP Patrick Toohers. The Pirates struck first on an RBI single by Kyle Grimm. The Dukes of James Madison answered in the bottom half of the 1st on an RBI single by Conner Brown. From there on though, it was all Seton Hall. The Pirates put up 12 runs in the first 5 innings, highlighted by a homerun in the 4th inning by D.J. Ruhlman. Seton Hall was led by Sal Annunziata who had 3 hits and 4 RBI’s. Other key contributors were Kyle Grimm who had 4 hits and 3 RBI’s, and Chris Selden who had 3 hits and scored 3 runs. The Pirates pounded a season high 22 hits in the rout. Josh Prevost did not have his best stuff today, but still got through 7 innings while allowing 4 runs and striking out 6. Prevost improved to 4-0, while Dan Ditusa and Steven Lombardi finished off the Dukes with 2 hitless innings. The Dukes were led by Ty McFarland who had 2 hits and an RBI. Center fielder Kevin Husum and SS Kyle Weston each had two hits as well for James Madison. Patrick Toohers fell to 0-3 on the season. The Pirates improved to 8-2 on the season and James Madison fell to 6-7.

Seton Hall is back in action tomorrow for the second game of the series against James Madison. Pirates Take Down The Wildcats

The Seton Hall Pirates opened up a 3 game weekend series in Tucson, Arizona against the #22 Arizona Wildcats with a 9-1 victory. The Pirates ace RHP Josh Prevost faced off against the Wildcats’ RHP James Farris. Prevost turned in another masterful performance, going 8 innings while striking out 7 and scattering 5 hits. Prevost improves to 3-0 with wins over Richmond, Oklahoma, and Arizona. Seton Hall continued the glorious trend of scoring in the 1st inning by putting up 4 runs on the board. Designated hitter Tyler Boyd cleared the bases with a triple, while shortstop D.J. Ruhlman brought home Boyd with an RBI single. Seton Hall first baseman Sal Annunziata continued to swing a hot bat by going 3-5 with 2 runs scored. Third baseman Kyle Grimm, catcher Dillon Hamlin, and Boyd all had 2 hits in the Pirates’ first win over a ranked team this season. Hamlin also contributed 2 RBI’s in the 9th on a triple off of Arizona pitcher Tyger Talley. The only run for Arizona came on an RBI single in the 5th by Jordan Berger. Sam Burum pitched a scoreless 9th for the Pirates who improved to 5-3 on the season, and Arizona fell to 6-3. The Pirates will be back in action March 1 against the same Arizona Wildcats, with LHP Anthony Elia (1-1) of the Pirates, squaring off against Arizona RHP Cody Hamlin (2-0) who is coming off a complete game against Alcorn State. After a sweep of Richmond, and a win over Arizona it looks like Seton Hall could be nationally ranked at some point this season, and is looking more and more like the front runners in a very competitive Big East Conference. Until next time, Hazard Zet Forward.
