The Seton Hall University baseball team was coming off a series in Norman, Oklahoma, losing two out of three to the Sooners. The team bounced back in style with a sweep of the Richmond Spiders over the weekend. Game 1 saw Pirates RHP Josh Prevost going up against Richmond’s RHP Jonathan de Marte. The Pirates got on the board in the first on an RBI double by Sal Annunziata, which scored Zack Weigel. The Pirates added a run in the second , four runs in the third, and two runs in the sixth. The Pirates were led by Sal Annunziata and Zack Weigel with 3 hits each as well as an RBI. The Pirates got great production from everywhere in the lineup as 8 different players had an RBI. Richmond got its only 2 runs in the fourth when Matt Dacey homered. The real story of this game was senior Josh Prevost who pitched his first career complete game. Prevost was phenomenal, scattering 6 hits and 2 runs while striking out 8. Prevost picked up his 2nd win of the young season. The Pirates took game 1 by a score of 8-2 to earn their 2nd win of the season.

Game 2 of the series saw Pirates LHP Anthony Elia facing off against Richmond’s LHP Dylan Stoops. Seton Hall jumped out early in this game as well, getting 3 runs in the first inning, led by an RBI double by Sal Annunziata. The Pirates took a commanding 11-0 lead before Richmond got on the board in the 6th. Richmond got on the board with an RBI double by Chris Bell in the 6th and an RBI double by Eric Flanagan in the 9th. For the Pirates, they were led by first baseman Sal Annunziata who was 3-4 with 3 RBI’s. Mikael-Ali Mogues came off of the bench and hit a homerun in the 9th inning to cap the scoring for the Pirates. Designated hitter Mike Caputo also had 3 RBI’s for the Pirates who improved to 3-2 on the young season. Both of the teams had problems on defense in this game. The Pirates committed 3 errors while the Spiders committed 4. The Pirates combination of Elia (6 innings), Joe DiBenedetto (1 inning), Zach Prendergast (.2 innings), and Greg Tripold (1.1 innings) combined to hold the Spiders to 8 hits and 2 runs. The Pirates knocked out Dylan Stoops after 3.1 innings, en route to a 16-2 blowout of the Spiders. Anthony Elia improved to 1-1 on the season with the win. This game was scheduled for Friday but played on Sunday due to rain.

Game 3 of the series was the second game of the Sunday double header. This game saw Pirates RHP Sam Burum squaring off against Richmond’s RHP Ryan Cook. The Pirates got off to a good start with 2 runs in the top of the first. First baseman Sal Annunziata hit a double that scored 2 and gave the Pirates a 2-0 lead after the top of the first. The Spiders answered in the bottom half of the inning with 2 runs of their own on RBI doubles by Doug Kraeger and Ryan Cook. From their though the Pirates pitching took over, Luke Cahill got the win with 4.1 innings of scoreless pitching, scattering 2 hits and striking out 3.  Seton Hall scored in the first inning of every game in the series and outscored Richmond by a score of 30-6. Sal Annunziata and Chris Chiaradio each had 2 RBI’s for the Pirates who improved to 4-2 on the season. Conor Krauss came in for 1 inning and struck out the side in order. This game was called after 8 innings due to darkness.
