Prevost Powers Pirates

The Seton Hall Pirates were back in action today in New Rochelle, NY to take on the Iona Gaels. Led by their ace Josh Prevost, the Pirates cruised to an 8-0 win. The pitching matchup was RHP Josh Prevost (6-0) for Seton Hall against RHP Mariano Rivera (1-2) for Iona. The Pirates got on the board in the top of the second, highlighted by an RBI single from center fielder Derek Jenkins, and a single by second baseman Chris Chiaradio that plated 2 runs. The Pirates took a 4-0 lead into the 3rd inning where they added 2 more runs. Pitching had the upper hand, until Sal Annunziata scored on a wild pitch, and D.J. Ruhlman scored on a passed ball. This ended the scoring for the Pirates, and the score would hold to give the Pirates their 17th win of the season. Josh Prevost was yet again the star of this game. The senior went 8 shutout innings to record his 7th win of the season. Prevost game up just 2 hits, while walking only one and striking out 11. Sam Burum came on in the 9th and pitched a scoreless inning. With the loss, Rivera fell to 1-3 on the season. Rivera went 4 innings, giving up 5 earned runs on 8 hits. The Pirates were led by SS D.J. Ruhlman, and center fielder Derek Jenkins. Ruhlman had 3 hits and scored 3 runs. Jenkins had 3 hits and 2 RBI’s. First baseman Sal Annunziata had 2 hits, and Chris Chiaradio had 2 RBI’s. Right fielder Chris Selden also had an RBI for the Pirates. SS Vinny DeMaria doubled for the Gaels who fell to 3-12 on the season. The Pirates improved to 17-4 on the season. The 11 strikeouts were a career high for Prevost.

The Pirates are back in action tomorrow in New Britain, CT for a double header against the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State. The Pirates will send RHP Conor Krauss to the mound in game 1, and LHP Anthony Elia in game 2. The Gaels take on Central Connecticut State on Sunday.
