Pirates Set To Host Wildcats

The Seton Hall Pirates will be in action this weekend for a 3 game series with the Wildcats of Villanova University. The Wildcats come in with a 12-25 overall record, and a 3-6 record in BIG EAST play. The Pirates come in with a 28-9 overall record, and a 3-3 BIG EAST record. The pitching matchups are as followed. Game 1 on Friday will see RHP Josh Prevost (8-1, 1.66 ERA) for the Pirates squaring off against LHP Josh Harris (3-5, 5.96 ERA) for Villanova. Game 2 will see LHP Anthony Elia (3-3, 2.76 ERA) for Seton Hall against RHP Max Almonte (1-4, 5.16 ERA) for the Wildcats. The final game will be RHP Luke Cahill (7-1, 2.56 ERA) for the Pirates against LHP Hunter Schryver (1-5, 4.02 ERA) for the Wildcats. For the Pirates, SS D.J. Ruhlman has been leading the way so far this season. Ruhlman leads the team in batting average (.386) and is tied with first baseman Sal Annunziata in hits (44). Annunziata leads the Pirates in doubles (14), RBI’s (32), and total bases (67). Tyler Boyd leads the team in homeruns with 4, and Zack Weigel leads the team in runs with 34.

Pirates fall to Mountain Hawks

The Seton Hall Pirates were in action today in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to face the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks. The Pirates fought hard but fell to the Mountain Hawks by a score of 3-2. The pitching matchup was RHP Sam Burum (2-0) for the Pirates against RHP Jayme Edwards (0-0) for Lehigh. The Pirates got on the board in the 2nd inning on an RBI single by center fielder Derek Jenkins. The game remained 1-0 until the 4th, when Lehigh got on the board. The Mountain Hawks got RBI singles from first baseman Connor Faust and designated hitter Tyler Brong to take a 2-1 lead. The score would remain the same until the top of the 8th. A two out single by SS D.J. Ruhlman set the stage for catcher Alex Falconi. Falconi delivered a double to left center to tie the score at 2. The Mountain Hawks would retake the lead in the bottom of the inning on a fielders choice. The Pirates got a runner to third in the 9th, but could not tie the game. The win improved the Mountain Hawks record to 20-19, and the loss dropped Seton Hall to 28-9. Conor Krauss took the loss for the Pirates, he falls to 1-2 on the season. Nick Macaione recorded the win for Lehigh and he improves to 1-2. The Mountain Hawks were led by second baseman Mike Garzillo who had 2 hits and scored 2 runs. The Pirates were led by third baseman Tyler Boyd had 2 hits for the Pirates. Derek Jenkins also reached base 3 times.

The Pirates are back in action on Friday for the start of a 3 game series with the Villanova Wildcats. The Wildcats are coming off of a 7-6 loss to St. Joseph’s. The Wildcats come in with a 12-25 record overall and a 3-6 BIG EAST record. We will have a preview of the series soon, and will have a full recap of the game Friday when it goes final. Pirates Walk Off Against Monmouth

The Seton Hall Pirates were in action today at Owen T. Carroll field to take on the Monmouth University Hawks. The Pirates came away with a dramatic 4-3 win to improve to 28-8 while the Hawks fell to 11-20. The pitching matchup was LHP Anthony Pacillo (3-0) for Seton Hall against LHP Anthony Ciavarella (0-0) for the Hawks. The game was scoreless until the 3rd inning when Monmouth got on the board. Second baseman Jake Gronsky flied out to left which allowed Dave Moreno to score and give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. The Pirates answered in the 5th, with RBI singles by Derek Jenkins and Dillon Hamlin. The Pirates added a run in the 8th on an RBI single by SS D.J. Ruhlam to take a 3-1 lead into the 9th inning. In the 9th, the Hawks got an RBI single from SS Grant Lamberton, and another sacrifice fly from Jake Gronsky to tie the score at 3. In the bottom of the inning, Dillon Hamlin led off and was hit by a pitch. Jackson Martin pinch ran for Hamlin. Second baseman Chris Chiaradio reached on a fielders choice, and Martin advanced to third on an error. This set the stage for Derek Jenkins who delivered with a single up the middle to give the Pirates the victory. Anthony Pacillo pitched well for the Pirates, but had to settle for a no decision. The left hander went 7.1 innings, surrendering 9 hits and 1 run while striking out 5. The victory went to Ryan Testani who improved to 2-1 on the season. The loss went to Stephen Frey who fell to 0-2. The Hawks were led by Jake Gronsky who went 2-3 with 2 RBI’s. Grant Lamberton, Dave Moreno, and Chris Gaetano each had 2 hits as well. The Pirates were led by Derek Jenkins who had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s. Designated hitter Tyler Boyd also chipped in 2 hits for the Pirates.

Pirates Take Down Tigers

The Seton Hall Pirates were in action today in Princeton, NJ to take on the Princeton University Tigers. The Pirates came away with a 13-6 win, and head into BIG EAST play with a 20-5 record. The pitching matchup was LHP Anthony Pacillo (1-0) for Seton Hall against RHP Luke Strieber (0-2) for Princeton. The Pirates got on the board in the first inning. Third baseman Tyler Boyd singled to center field, which brought home Zack Weigel and Derek Jenkins. The game remained 2-0 until the 6th inning. After a Tyler Boyd double, and a Sal Annunziata single, designated hitter Mikael-Ali Mogues flew out to left field which allowed Boyd to score. Later in the inning, right fielder John Beaubien flied out to right field which allowed Annunziata to score and make it a 4-0 lead. The Pirates added two more in the 7th on a sac fly from Weigel, and an RBI single from Boyd. In the 8th, a wild pitch allowed SS Joe Poduslenko to score and make it a 7-0 lead. The Tigers got on the board in the 8th, and made it a game. RBI singles from second baseman Danny Hoy, and center fielder Alec Keller highlighted a 6 run inning and brought the Tigers to within a run. But, the Pirates answered in the top of the 9th, with 6 runs of their own. The 6 run inning was highlighted by a 2 run single from Sal Annunziata. Anthony Pacillo turned in his best start of the season. The lefty went 7 shutout innings, allowing 1 hit and one walk while striking out 8. He improved to 2-0 on the year. Dan Ditusa pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Pirates. Luke Strieber took the loss and fell to 0-3. The Pirates were led by Tyler Boyd who had 3 hits and 4 RBI’s. Sal Annunziata had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s. Derek Jenkins and Joe Poduslenko each had 2 hits and scored 3 runs. For Princeton, catcher Brett Geren had a hit, scored a run, and had an RBI. The loss drops the Tigers to 7-12 on the season.

The Pirates are back in action this weekend in Indianapolis, Indian to take on the Butler University Bulldogs. The Bulldogs come in with a record of 11-16 in their first year in the BIG EAST. We will have a full recap of Friday’s game when it goes final. Until then, Hazard Zet Forward.
