Pirates Down South Carolina

The Seton Hall Pirates were back in action Monday as they took on the South Carolina Gamecocks in the UnderArmour Reunion at Madison Square Garden. The Pirates came in with a record of 7-2 while South Carolina came in at 8-0. The Pirates would hand the Gamecocks their first loss of the season, defeating them 67-64.

The Pirates did not come out strong in this game. Sloppy play and turnovers plagued the Pirates early on. South Carolina took advantage early on and opened up a 7-2 lead. Seton Hall fought back and then exchanged buckets with South Carolina for several minutes. The Gamecocks looked like they were beginning to open up the game towards the end of the half. An 8-0 run gave them a 25-17 lead with 6:54 remaining in the first half. The Pirates cut into the lead but South Carolina would take a 34-27 lead into the locker room.

The Gamecocks were led by PJ Dozier in the first half. He scored 12 points and had a pair of steals. Maik Kotsar led the Gamecocks on the glass with 5 first half rebounds. Chris Silva was second on the team with 5 points in the first half. South Carolina shot 44.8% from the field and 28.6% from beyond the arc in the first half.

The Pirates were led by Angel Delgado in the first half. He scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Khadeen Carrington had 7 points and Ismael Sanogo led the Pirates with 6 rebounds. Myles Powell chipped in 5 points and 5 rebounds. Seton Hall shot 25.9% from the field and 25% from beyond the arc in the first half.

The Pirates faced an uphill battle early on in the second half. South Carolina refused to relinquish the lead. But, with 11:30 to go in the half the Pirates tied it up. From there the two teams were back and forth and provided a great half for the fans at MSG. With 31 seconds to go South Carolina tied the score at 64. The Pirates would not let the game get away though. Desi Rodriguez shook a defender and powered home a layup with 10 seconds to go that would ultimately be the difference in the game. The Pirates handed South Carolina their first loss of the season by a score of 67-64.

The Gamecocks were led overall by PJ Dozier who had 20 points and 5 rebounds. Chris Silva had 11 points and 9 rebounds before fouling out in the second half. Hassani Gravett chipped in 11 points and Maik Kotsar added 7 rebounds. South Carolina shot 38.6% from the field and 31.3% from beyond the arc.

The Pirates were led by Khadeen Carrington who had 21 points on the night. Desi Rodriguez had the winning bucket and scored 16 points overall. Angel Delgado had another double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Myles Powell chipped in 11 points and Ismael Sanogo grabbed 12 rebounds. Seton Hall shot 34.5% from the field and 25% from beyond the arc.

With the loss South Carolina falls to 8-1 on the season. They will now head to Tampa, Florida to take on South Florida on Saturday. The Pirates improve to 8-2 with the victory. They will be back at the Prudential Center on Saturday to take on the University of Delaware.

Pirates Bounce Golden Bears

The Seton Hall Pirates were back in action on Wednesday in their final game of the Pearl Harbor Invitational against the California Golden Bears. The Pirates came in with a record of 6-2 while Cal came in with a record of 7-1. The Pirates wound up getting a much needed 60-57 victory.

This game was tight throughout its entirety. The Pirates and Golden Bears were very evenly matched especially early on. The largest lead of the half came after a Desi Rodriguez jumperĀ gave Seton Hall a five point edge. The big match up in this game was Ivan Rabb vs Angel Delgado. The two did battle on a few occasions. The Pirates would head into halftime trailing 34-31.

The Golden Bears were led by Jabari Bird in the first half. He had 12 points and 8 rebounds. Charlie Moore also scored in double figures with 10 points. Ivan Rabb was quiet in the first half with 4 points and 4 rebounds. Cal shot 52% from the field and 37.5% from beyond the arc in the first half.

Seton Hall was led by Khadeen Carrington who had 8 points and 2 assists in the first half. Desi Rodriguez also scored 8 points in the first half. Angel Delgado led the way on the boards with 6 rebounds and also had 6 points in the first half. The Pirates shot 48.3% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc in the first half.

Cal got out to a quick start in the second half as they took a 6 point lead. Seton Hall would score the next 6 points to tie the score at 40. The two teams went back and forth for the majority of the second half. The Pirates would build a 6 point lead though. One of the highlights was a sequence where a Desi Rodriguez dunk was answered by a Jabari Bird dunk. Despite a late charge from Cal, the Pirates would hold on for a 60-57 victory.

Cal was led by Jabari Bird who had 22 points and 9 rebounds. Charlie Moore was second on the team with 12 points. Ivan Rabb had a relatively quiet night with 8 points and 8 rebounds. The Golden Bears shot 43.4% from the field and 18.8% from beyond the arc.

Seton Hall was led by Angel Delgado who had another double double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Desi Rodriguez had 15 points on the night. Khadeen Carrington had a solid night with 14 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. The Pirates shot 46.2% from the field and 27.3% from beyond the arc.

With the loss the Golden Bears fall to 7-2 on the season. They will head home to take on UC Davis on Saturday. The Pirates improve to 7-2 on the season with the victory. They will now travel to Madison Square Garden on Monday to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Pirates Defeat Hawai’i

The Seton Hall Pirates were back in action on Tuesday to take on the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors in the Pearl Harbor Invitational. The Pirates came in at 5-2 while Hawai’i came in at 4-3. The Pirates would end up coming away with a 68-57 victory over the Rainbow Warriors.

The Pirates scored the first 7 points of the game with the highlight being a three pointer from Khadeen Carrington. Hawai’i would fight back and take a two point lead with 14 minutes to go in the first half. The Pirates would retake the lead and build on it. With 4:26 remaining in the first half, a Myles Powell free throw gave SHU an 11 point lead. Desi Rodriguez provided a few highlights in the first half with a pair of dunks. The Pirates would take a 33-25 lead into halftime.

The Rainbow Warriors were led by Gibson Johnson who had 7 points and 4 rebounds in the first half. Noah Allen led the way on the boards with 6 rebounds. Brocke Stepteau and Jack Purchase each had 5 points for Hawai’i. The Rainbow Warriors shot 25% from the field and 26.7% from beyond the arc in the first half.

Seton Hall was led by Desi Rodriguez and Angel Delgado in the first half. Rodriguez had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals in the first half. Angel Delgado had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Khadeen Carrington chipped in 6 points and 2 steals. The Pirates shot 42.3% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc in the first half.

The Pirates were in control throughout the second half. They built their lead and protected it. Hawai’i had a few runs but could never get within striking distance. Seton Hall took its largest lead of the game off of a beautiful step back three pointer from Khadeen Carrington. The Pirates would ultimately go on to defeat Hawai’i 68-57.

Hawai’i was led by Brocke Stepteau who had 17 points. Gibson Johnson added 12 points and 7 rebounds. Jack Purchase chipped in 8 points and 4 rebounds while Larry Lewis Jr. added 7 points. The Rainbow Warriors shot 32.1% from the field and 32% from beyond the arc.

The Pirates were led by Khadeen Carrington who had 19 points. Angel Delgado had a big game with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Desi Rodriguez and Madison Jones each had 11 points for the Hall. Myles Powell chipped in 7 points and 3 steals. The Pirates shot 48.1% from the field and 46.2% from beyond the arc.

With the loss the Rainbow Warriors fall to 4-4 on the season. They will take on Princeton today in their second game of the Pearl Harbor Invitational. With the victory the Pirates improve to 6-2 on the season. They will take on the Cal Golden Bears today in Hawai’i.

Cardinals Crush Pirates

The Seton Hall Pirates were back in action on Sunday in their final game of the Advocare Invitational in Orlando, Florida against the Stanford Cardinal. The Pirates came in with a record of 4-1 while the Cardinal came in at 5-1. The Pirates would not fare well in this one and would ultimately fall to Stanford 66-52.

The Pirates did a solid job early on. Halfway through the first half the Pirates held a 10 point lead. Khadeen Carrington led the way for the Pirates early on and helped the Hall to a quick start. The Cardinal would go on an 8-0 run to end the half and head into halftime tied at 26.

The Cardinal were led in the first half by Reid Travis who had 10 points and 5 rebounds. Dorian Pickens added 8 points and 5 rebounds. Marcus Allen led the way with 3 assists in the first half. The Cardinal shot 37.5% from the field in the first half and did not make any of their 8 three point attempts.

The Pirates were led in the first half by Khadeen Carrington who had 8 points and an assist. Michael Nzei led the Pirates on the boards with 6 rebounds and also scored 6 points. Angel Delgado chipped in 6 points and 4 rebounds. The Pirates shot 48% from the field and did not make any of their 6 three pointers in the first half.

The Pirates and Cardinal traded buckets to start the second half. Khadeen Carrington scored the first 4 points for the Hall in the second half. With the score tied at 30, Stanford would go on to score the next 7 points. A 3 pointer from Christian Sanders gave Stanford a 37-30 lead with 15:42 to go in the second half. The Cardinal built up a lead to as much as 13 points. The Pirates fought back to cut into the lead, but the Cardinal wouldn’t surrender it. The Pirates would ultimately go on to lose to Stanford by a score of 66-52.

Stanford was led overall by Dorian Pickens who had 21 points and 5 rebounds. Reid Travis had a solid game with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Marcus Allen led the team with 6 assists on the night. The Cardinal shot 42.1% from the field and 13.3% from beyond the arc.

The Pirates were led by Khadeen Carrington who had 20 points and 4 rebounds. Michael Nzei had his second straight solid game. He scored 9 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Angel Delgado chipped in 8 points and 9 rebounds. The Pirates shot 38% from the field and 11.8% from beyond the arc.

With the win the Cardinal improve to 6-1 on the year. With the loss the Pirates fall to 4-2 on the year. Stanford heads home to take on the Saint Mary’s Gaels on Wednesday. The Pirates will head home to take on Columbia on Thursday at 7 pm.
