The Seton Hall Pirates took on the Farleigh Dickinson Knights in the first game of a three game series on Friday at Owen T. Carroll Field. The Pirates came out on top 3-1 to take the first game of the series. The pitching matchup was RHP Josh Prevost for Seton Hall matching up with RHP Joe Flack for Farleigh Dickinson. The Pirates got on the board first in the third on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Kyle Grimm, which brought home Derek Jenkins. The score remained 1-0 until the 6th inning, when Farleigh Dickinson got on the board with an RBI double from second baseman Dylan Sprague. The Pirates answered in the bottom of the inning with 2 runs to make it a 3-1 game. With runners on second and third, right fielder Chris Selden came through with a single to center which brought home the 2 runs. The 3-1 score would hold, and the Pirates picked up their 13th win of the season. The story of the game though, was Josh Prevost. Prevost picked up the win to improve to 6-0 on the season. Prevost went the distance, scattering 4 hits and only walking 1 while striking out 5. The complete game was the third on the season for the right hander, who’s ERA improved to 1.69 on the season. Prevost has picked up the win in the opening game of every series for the Pirates so far. The loss went to Joe Flack who fell to 0-2. For Seton Hall, designated hitter Tyler Boyd, and left fielder Zack Weigel had 2 hits apiece. Chris Selden went 1-3 and had the biggest hit of the game, the single in the 6th that gave the Pirates the lead for good. For the Knights, Dylan Sprague had the lone RBI, and third baseman Joel Roman scored the only run. With the win, Seton Hall improves to 13-4 while the Knights fall to 6-8.
As an interesting note, a scout for the Chicago Cubs was at the game, and in a brief conversation with him, Blue Beard Army learned that he was there specifically for Prevost, writing down his every pitch with his own speedometer, topping out at 94 MPH.
The Pirates will be back in action today for game 2 of the series. The game will be at Farleigh Dickinson, before the Pirates return to Owen T. Carroll field for the final game on Sunday. Until then, Hazard Zet Forward.
