Boyd, Annunziata, Power Pirates To Win

The Seton Hall Pirates traveled to Teaneck, NJ to take on the Farleigh Dickinson Knights in game 2 of the 3 game series. After a rough start, the Pirates battled back to earn a 10-5 win. The pitching matchup was RHP Conor Krauss for Seton Hall against RHP Brendan Butler for the Knights. After the Pirates were retired in order in the 1st, the Knights got on the board. Conor Krauss was touched up for 5 runs in .2 of an inning. The inning was highlighted by a double by SS Matt McCann that brought home 2 RBI’s. Luke Cahill came on in relief and got the final out of the inning. The Pirates answered immediately in the top of the second. First baseman Sal Annunziata blasted a solo homerun to right field to get the Pirates on the board. The homerun was the first of the season for Annunziata. The Pirates then took the lead for good in the third. With runners on first and second, designated hitter Tyler Boyd came through with a homerun to right center field. The homerun by Boyd capped a 5 run inning, and gave the Pirates the lead that they would not relinquish. The homerun was the third of the season for Boyd. Seton Hall got on the board again in the 5th inning. After singles from Kyle Grimm and Sal Annunziata, Chris Selden delivered a single to right field that brought home 2 runs. Both teams were scoreless until the 7th, when a Chris Chiaradio single brought home Tyler Boyd to make it a 10-5 Seton Hall lead. The score would hold and the Pirates came away with a 10-5 win. Luke Cahill did a masterful job for the Pirates. He came on in relief of Conor Krauss and pitched 6 shut out innings while allowing only 3 hits. Cahill improved his record to 4-1 on the season. Seton Hall was led by Tyler Boyd who had 3 hits and 3 RBI’s. Kyle Grimm had 3 hits, while Sal Annunziata and Chris Selden each had 2 RBI’s. The Knights were led by Matt McCann with 2 RBI’s. Brendan Butler took the loss and fell to 1-3 on the season. The Pirates improved to 14-4 on the season while the Knights fell to 6-9.

The Pirates will be back in action today at Owen T. Carroll Field in the final game of the series. The Pirates will be looking for their 4th sweep of the season. The Pitching matchup is LHP Anthony Elia (1-2) for the Pirates facing off against RHP John Chalupa (1-1) for the Knights. We hope to see a big crowd today to cheer on the Pirates as they go for the sweep of the Knights. We will have a full recap of the game when it goes final. Until then, Hazard Zet Forward.
